Articulating my ideas
I always have all these creative ideas in my head but when I try to explain them to anyone, I get a really confused look from them. Why is it so hard to explain what I'm clearly thinking?...
Articulating my creative ideas has always been difficult for me. I don't know why but it just has. I either make a long-winded explanation by trying to explain the details of each step or just somehow go off into another subject without circling back around to the main point. I feel really "stupid" at this point and I don't want to explain my creative thought anymore.
Fortunately, I usually work with creatives. Now, these friends will listen to just a few words and finish my sentence for me. We share the same mindset and this does two things for me; of course the first is relief and the other is my trust in them grows substantially.
On the off chance, I'm not working around other creatives with the same mindset, I try to do a couple of things, and of course, if you want to utilize these key points, by all means, go for it.
1) Don't use difficult words in your explanation
- You're not going to sound intelligent if you use those "big words" incorrectly
- Simplifying doesn't mean you sound "dumb"
2) Focus on descriptive words
- Use words that help express how you feel
- This will convey the meaning behind what you're trying to say
Like I stated earlier, I know I'm fortunate with the circle of creatives that I have in my life and they understand me... Well, I hope they understand me... Now that I'm writing this, I'm thinking they might just acknowledge that I'm saying "words". At least they're good friends?... HAHA! So thank you for listening to me.
Now this is why I'm always "straight to the point". It's not that I'm trying to be "mean", I just need to either say it before I forget it or I gathered all my points in my head and I'm giving you the "conclusion". Trust me, it's better than me explaining everything to you and me just wasting all your time.
Final thought and please remember this; "People don't see you through their eyes. They see you through yours..."
